The Character of your Husband

Recently I made a comment on a rather controversial subject. A friend of my husband stated “I believe you since I know the character of your husband.”

That statement shook me. What a great responsibility had been placed upon me. I am blessed to be the wife of a man of high integrity, a man with great character. I have been given much and “unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required.”

I considered the damage I could do to my husband’s reputation by a few careless words or ungodly attitude or actions. I desire to exalt my husband in word and deed. How I would loath to harm his name.

I then considered my spiritual bridegroom. If I am trusted for my husband’s character, what of the Lord’s? If taking my husband’s name has such significance, how much more to say I am Christ’s?

I shudder to think of the times I have not protected the reputation of my husband or of Christ. I am grieved to think some might question my Lord on the account of my deeds. In Titus 2 God speaks of the seriousness of a woman’s actions. Disobedience could cause the word of God to be blasphemed, but in Proverbs 31 the husband of the godly woman is known in the gates.

I will strive to reflect the character of my God. I will strive to be perfect as my Father that is in heaven is perfect. I desire honor for my Lord. I will guard His name.

Proverbs 31
10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
